WASHINGTON, DC - APRIL 19: The Supreme Court of the United States, on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 in Washington, DC. But the legal dispute is the same: Can blocking someone on social media give rise to a free speech violation under the Constitution's First Amendment? It's a recurring question that has arisen at all levels of government as elected officials increasingly use social media to interact with voters. The appeals court concluded that the elected officials were acting in their official capacities and that social media accounts are akin to a public forum. The court also rejected the officials' argument that their social media pages were not official channels for members of the public to communicate with the government.
Twitter appears to be amplifying tweets of Russian state accounts after suppressing them last year. The Telegraph created a new account and was recommended the Kremlin-linked accounts, it reported. Elon Musk has been lifting most restrictions on accounts labelled harmful under previous management. Twitter had more broadly limited the reach of state-affiliated media since 2020, by not recommending them to users and labelling them as state-affiliated. The world's second-richest man reinstated Donald Trump's Twitter account in November to this end, although the former president has still not posted any new tweets.
In response, Musk tweeted: "You first lol." On Thursday evening, Musk suspended the accounts of at least half a dozen journalists and tweeted an explanation for the move. He claimed the suspended journalists had doxxed him, a violation of Twitter's updated privacy policy that was put in place on Wednesday. Musk also alleged on Thursday that the suspended journalists had posted his real-time location online, calling them "basically assassination coordinates." In response, Musk tweeted: "Stop hitting on me, I'm really shy."

The internet personality, who participated in the deadly Unite the Right white nationalist rally in 2017, appears to have had his account reinstated on Friday night. That figure could include some of the more than 11,000 accounts that were suspended for violating the company's Covid-19 misinformation rules.

After taking over Twitter in his $44 billion deal, Musk announced the platform would form a content moderation council "with widely diverse viewpoints." Despite Elon Musk reinstating some banned accounts last week, Lindell's Twitter suspension has yet not been lifted. Ye, the rapper formerly known as Kanye West, returned to Twitter over the weekend, writing "shalom" in one of his first posts since appearing to take a break from the platform after his account was restricted over anti-Semitic remarks. Musk said last month that Ye's account had been restored by Twitter before he took ownership.
